During 2004 I was busy with my
work as usual but I observed that my mother was looking so tired day by day and
refused to visit doctor. After 10th day I took her to Doctor and he
confirmed that she got diabetic that was the reason for her tiredness. Till
that time her health was puzzle to me and then I thought that I got the clew for
her tiredness. But when I came to home and spread the news to entire family
everybody in the home cried instantly. Then I realized the seriousness of being
the diabetic.
Doctor not only gave some
medication but also gave some tips about how to fight against diabetic for long
time. Then I told to my mother I can provide best food, money etc., but I can’t
buy her health. She has to take care of herself. She changed her food habits
and started walking etc. Till today her diabetic is under control. My uncles
(Mother elder and younger brothers) also got diabetic, more or less than after two
years both were gone! I wish I should have taken same care of them also but it
was too late to do so. This incident hunted inside me for several thousand
times.
Some time ago last year (2012) I
was feeling very tired during the evenings when I reach home from the office. After
observing for a week I met the doctor with same complaint. He asked me to go lab
test then he confirmed that I am deficient of vitamin B12 and D3. He also told
me that most of Indians in US (9 out of 10) will have this problem. I can’t
believe this. Later I came to know on my research it is 100% true that each and
every Indian (who is 30+ and lives in US) will have either high cholesterol, vitamin
D deficiency or in the edge of diabetic limit. Thanks to our recent health
habits! We, Indians are most complex and Hippocratic’s people in the world I
feel. We never share our health info to others. When I spoke to couple of guys
whom I met every day also confirmed that they are also having above said problems.
That made me to write this blog.
If you have any one of the above
said deficiency search in the internet and you fill find lots of useful
information. You have to do two things mainly one is changing your food habits
and another is doing some exercises .Then check three food items consumption in
your home Rice, Sugar and cooking oil.
Note when you brought that item last time with quantity and when it is
completed. By looking at the no days it completed with your family members in the
home you can calculate daily average consumption. Try to double or triple that
consumption duration time. Some tips here. Rice substitution is Quinoa ( You
can get it from Costco and cook same like as rice)Oats, jowar flour, Ragi flour
etc. Sugar substitute is Honey. There is no substitute for oil, you have to
reduce it. Increase your meals frequency from 3 times to 5 times by adding a
snack in between your break-fast and lunch time and adding another snack from
lunch to dinner time. Finish your dinner 2 hours before your bedtime.
You have to do exercises 5 times a week.
Sunday and Saturday are no excuse days, you have to make it first thing you do
exercise after waking up. Remaining 5 days plan for exercise in the morning. If you
miss that time for any reasons, do it at office during lunch time. If you can’t
do it at the office time, go for it during night time. If you plan like this
you never ever miss it .If you are lazy person to go walk switch to yoga at
home. Else play games like Tennis, Ball badminton, cricket etc. Remember that most
of us have small kids and it is necessary to being fit and active for another
18+ years to bring up your kids and to see settling in their life.
