My toastmaster's icebreak

I just wanted to share three important life changing lessons which I learnt from three great people in the midst of many. These 3 people helped me, define my attitude and my career up to this day.
Like many of you I have also learnt first important lesson from my dad. I.e. Aim high! My dad had a dream of becoming an Engineer in his life but could not fulfill his dream due to familial responsibilities. He also tried guiding his younger brothers but they were unable to succeed either. That's how my profession was decided before I was born. For me it took some time to realize why dad was so particular about his dream. He wanted to see my success as his success.  I took it as a great honor that my father bestowed upon me. Thus I firmly decided to join the engineering. Once I decided it was not easy because during early nineties getting a college seat in Engineering were incredibly difficult. The competition was fierce with about 24+ students competing for 1 seat. But as they say where there is a will there is a way. I finally got an admission into Engineering College. This is how I learnt the life changing lesson from my father -Aim High Always.
I set my goal and now I needed to accomplish it. One day I read a quote of Swami Vivekananda "Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached". Instantly I connected with this quote. It helped me to focus and remain in the group of students who successfully completed their dreams of becoming engineers. This is how I learnt my second lesson in life -don't stop till your goal is reached.
While studying I used to have lots of complaints about small things in life. For example there was no hot water for shower, hostel food was not tasty so on and so forth. During this I time I read book called "My experiments with truth" By Mahatma Gandhi. This book made a huge impact in my life. After reading this autobiography of Gandhi, when I compared my problems with his problems which he had during his time mine were nothing. This book helped me to become more disciplined in life with less complaints on the way.  So this is how I learnt my third lesson in my life- Discipline makes you successful in your life. That's the dream my dad had and I am glad to reach that goal. Today in my family each and every kid who is completed 20+ years are having either engineering degree or master's degree.
Last but not least we all have come far in life, overcoming our obstacles and fighting against odd times to reach a better outcome. Yet, it may not be enough, there is always one more thing to do in your life.

Improve my communication skills is that one more thing that I wanted to accomplish in my life. I think Margaret Mead's statement is truly applicable to this toast mapper's group. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." This is an amazing journey for me that has just started. I am sure that times ahead are going to be more exciting for me along with all of you. A big “thank you” may not seem enough, but it can demonstrate a deep emotion of understanding and happiness that defines personal success in one’s life. So I humbly and respectfully thank you for your time.
